This is the first of many business blogs. In this blog I will be laying out what you can expect to read and watch as well as my background and work history. Let’s start with a basic introduction of my education. I went to Georgian College for an advanced diploma in Business Administration-Marketing. Once I was finished with college, I was fortunate enough to be eligible to enter the affiliation program through Laurentian University to get my bachelor’s degree in business administration, my B.B.A.
Throughout college I was able to gain some good experience through the co-op program. My first co-op was for a company called Culligan water, ever heard of it? If your answer was yes, then you probably guess that I sold water… I literally sold water, that free stuff that comes from your tap! If you think that you get a lot of no’s selling your product or service, then you haven’t tried selling something that your can get for free… in pretty much any building you enter haha. This job taught me the power of persistence and allowed me to find common ground with customers and make conversation. My second co-op was with a software company where I learned and then forgot everything I used to know about website building and SEO, search engine optimization. I’m now relearning all the old things I used to know and so much more. My last one was doing market research for a stone company. There I worked with great some people and learned… how to input data, and that it sucked haha.
Once I finished school, I started personal training and found my passion. At the time of writing this Blog I will have been training for about nine years. A job that I have learned more in than any other. There was a period of three years where I decided to manage. Although relatively successful at it, it took me away from what I loved which was and still is training. Which brings me to my next adventure…my own business. Now, to be fair I did at one time have my own business called “Matt’s Mowin’”. I was sixteen and it was awesome!
You could say that I come from a line of serial entrepreneurs as my dad had some successful businesses, and a few duds as we all do. Like me, my father also liked to rhyme and came up with the brilliant “Zak’s Snacks”. After forgetting Christmas in the early stages of their marriage, my dad always the thinker, wrapped 20 chocolate bars for my mom… and that was the end of Zak’s snacks, but thankfully not their marriage.
So, why am I giving my life’s story? To help you get to know me and my background. I don’t pretend to know everything, or much for that matter. My hope is that through these blogs I will help inspire someone to follow their dream in business or in anything, give a bit of coaching, through out some tips, and have some laughs. As always, thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope to see you soon!
